When to Expect the M1X MacBook Pros to Become Available to Order

Apple announced today that it will hold a virtual event at 10 a.m. Pacific Time on Monday, October 18. Rumours suggest that the new 14-inch and 16 inch MacBook Pro models will feature a faster M1 chip.


A few readers asked us about when they could place orders for the new MacBook Pro models after the announcement.

Although nothing can be certain until Apple declares it, nearly all of the new Macs that were announced at an Apple Event in the past five years were available for purchase on the same day. Only exception was the 24 inch iMac, which Apple announced earlier in the year.

The iMac Pro, the latest Mac Pro, and the iMac Pro 2 were not included in this list as they were shown during WWDC keynotes months before their launch.

2016: The Apple Event announced the first MacBook Pro models equipped with Touch Bar on Thursday, October 27, 2016. They were available for order that day. Customers began receiving their orders on Monday, November 14th, after shipping took about 2 weeks.

Apple Newsroom releases new Macs, and they are often available for order the same day as the announcement. This includes the 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2019, and the 27-inch iMac from August 2020.

The 24-inch iMac broke the trend for same-day orders for new Macs due to supply chain problems related to the pandemic. However, it is still unknown if the new MacBook Pro models will be delayed ordered. Customers interested in the M1X MacBook Pro won't likely have to set an alarm for Friday morning like they do with iPhones.
