United is making it easier to use flight credits

United Airlines will automatically show flight credits during checkout.
MileagePlus members will see the new functionality this week. It is expected to make the new functionality available in the near future for all customers with flight credits.

Toby Enqvist, chief customer officer at United, said in a prepared statement that "unlike most airlines where travel credit is difficult to use", "We are showing our customers that they have credit -- and making it easier than ever for them to use."

United customers have the option to combine multiple flight credit when booking flights. According to the carrier, customers will soon be able to use future flight credits in combination with electronic travel certificates. Although electronic travel certificates and future flights credits are identical, they differ in terms of expiration rules.

Credits may also be used to book on United partners via United.com or United.app

United will allow customers to use their travel credit to pay pre-pay bag fees or to purchase extra legroom. This is a new feature. Customers who still have unutilized travel credits from August 31 will be able to use them to pay for other travel by sharing them with another customer at the check-out screen.

Due to the unpredictable nature of the Covid-19 pandemic and the decision by the airlines to eliminate change fees, credit has been issued by U.S. airlines in unprecedented numbers.
