T-Mobile Shutting Down Sprint's LTE Network in June 2022

T-Mobile plans to close Sprint's LTE network in June 2022, T-Mobile told Light Reading. T-Mobile purchased Sprint in order to combine the two networks. This is why Sprint's LTE network will be shut down.T-Mobile is developing a 5G network using Sprint spectrum and towers. It is trying to move Sprint customers to T-Mobile's network, instead of the Sprint network.T-Mobile will also shut down Sprint's LTE network and deactivate Sprint 3G CDMA network by January 1, 2022.We will retire older technologies in order to make sure all customers have access to a better 4G and 5G network. This will allow us to increase our network's strength, upgrade all customers and bridge the Digital Divide. This effort also includes moving Sprint's LTE spectrum over to the T-Mobile network.T-Mobile currently has approximately 33% of Sprint customers switched to the T-Mobile network. Customers will need to switch to T-Mobile before Sprint's LTE network closes. This involves replacing their Sprint SIMs by a T-Mobile SIM, and ensuring Voice over LTE is enabled on the relevant devices.T-Mobile claims that most Sprint LTE devices and 5G phones are compatible with T-Mobile’s LTE networks.
