Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani was taken out of the game against the Chicago White Socks because of a groin problem.
The team described Ohtani's removal as precautionary after the win. He could be in the lineup for the finale.
Ohtani was taken out of the game for safety reasons, but he was fine with that. He plans on playing tomorrow.
The Angels designated hitter went 0-for-3 before being replaced by pinch-hitter Jack Mayfield with two runners on and Los Angeles leading by four. The Angels were able to hold off a five-run White Sox rally in the ninth.
Angels manager Joe Maddon said that it was too soon to say if Ohtani would make his next start. On April 27 he pitched at Cleveland.
While running down the line, Ohtani appeared to ease up, as he grounded into a double play.
Maddon said that he thought that was the cause.
Ohtani is hitting.228 with four homers and 12 RBIs. He has gone 2-2 on the mound with a 4.19 average.
The Angels were supported by another strong showing from starter Michael Lorenzen, who allowed just three runs in 8.1 frames of work. Mike Trout hit a home run and reached base five times for the Angels, as well as a single after replacing Ohtani.
Los Angeles is off to a 15-8 start and leads the American League West.
