The All-Star will not play in the first round of the playoffs for the Pens because of an injury.

Jarry is day-to-day, but Sullivan indicated the goalie wouldn't be available for the series in New York. Jarry hasn't played since being diagnosed with a lower-body injury after a victory over the New York Islanders.

When the Pens head to Madison Square Garden, they will have a new starter in mind. DeSmith made one appearance against the Rangers this season, playing 4:19 against New York on March 25 before leaving following a collision with a teammate. DeSmith is 3-2-1 with a 3.45 goals-against average and a.886 save percentage in seven career appearances against New York.

The 30-year-old DeSmith has played well in the run-up to the playoffs even as the Pens have struggled. After the All-Star break, DeSmith went 8-3 with a 2.44 GAA and.928 save percentage.

Zucker is out for the beginning of the series with an injury he sustained in the loss to the Oilers. Zucker has only been able to play 41 games this season because of injuries.

The Rangers are a daunting opponent for the Pens, but they are otherwise healthy. During the regular season, New York won three of four meetings.
