The bat used by Robinson in the 1949 MLB All-Star Game in Brooklyn sold for over $1 million at an auction on Saturday.

The bat Babe Ruth hit his first Yankee Stadium home run with in 1923 is the most expensive baseball bat ever sold at auction, but it is extremely rare to cross the $1 million threshold.

Hunt Auctions, which recently conducted auctions of Bill Russell's belongings on behalf of a private buyer, purchased the bat.

The bat has been in the Robinson family archives since the day it was first used by Robinson.

David Hunt, president of Hunt Auctions, said in a statement that the example at the top of the Jackie game bats is the direct provenance from Rachel Robinson and the added historical significance of the 1949 All-Star Game being played in Brooklyn.

Robinson won the Most Valuable Player award during the 1949 season. The 75th anniversary of Robinson breaking the color barrier in baseball was celebrated on April 15.

The 1951 Robinson home jersey was included in the Goldin auction. It would have been the most expensive piece of sports equipment ever sold at an auction. The jersey went unsold because the reserve wasn't met.
