According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cindy Holland, the former vice president of original content at Netflix, told CEO Ted Sarandos that bringing Dave Chappelle back for a comedy special might not be a good idea.

Holland warned Sarandos that Dave Chappelle specials would lead to internal strife and bad press, and that he should stop ordering them.

Chappelle's comedy special contained transphobic rhetoric, including a joke where he said he was a radical feminist.

In previous specials, Chappelle has been accused of being anti-trans. He told staff members that he had messed up, after he defended Chappelle.

There was an internal conflict and dissent among employees. The staff of the company spoke out about their disapproval of the set and the decision to greenlight it.

The platform lost 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter and expects to lose two million in the next. Its stock plummeted in after-hours trading.

Tudum, the streamer's new marketing site, had 25 full-time staff laid off this week.

A source told The Hollywood Reporter that Holland's oversight of the series was the reason for its previous success.

A representative for the company did not reply immediately.
