According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the New EnglandPatriots are signing D' Eriq King.
Bailey Zappe was selected in the fourth round.
Between his time with Houston and Miami, King spent six years at the college level. He ran for 2,055 yards and 32 scores and threw for 8,378 yards and 76 touchdown.
He was the 13th quarterback on the final big board.
Alex Barth of The Sports Hub said that the New England team did its due diligence on King, and that an assistant coach helped stage a workout for him.
Mac Jones is firmly entrenched as the starting quarterback heading into the 2022 season, and Zappe joined a QB room that already included Brian Hoyer. It is unlikely that King will get regular reps under center.
King is hoping to follow in the footsteps of a friend.
He began his career as a receiver and return specialist and emerged as a critical piece of New England's aerial attack.
King was not Houston's full-time starting quarterback until his junior season, but he was more familiar with wideout than Edelman was. He had 58 catches for 492 yards and three touchdown in two years.
King is worth the risk. His age means he may not have a lot of time to adjust before the Pats expect some results.
