Service should be attentive and kind. When a flight attendant goes above and beyond the call of duty, she should be recognized and I wish to recognize Patrizia, who I had the pleasure of flying with from Pittsburgh to Chicago on United Express operated by GoJet this week.
I am dismayed that so many of my United Express flights are operated by a variety of regional airlines that feature apathetic flight attendants who claim that a flight is too short. Flight times have not changed. The schedules are padded to make sure they are on time.
That wasn't the case on this flight. My flight was operated by a larger regional jet that United ripped 20 seats out of in order to be in compliance with its pilot's scope clause, as part of its bargain with pilots.
There are 10 first class seats and 40 economy class seats on the regional jet. One flight attendant is responsible for the entire aircraft since there are only 50 seats.
There isn't time to offer a beverage service due to the short duration of the flight, so some people use that as an excuse not to perform any service at all.
But not Patrizia. Not on my flight to Chicago.
She welcomed each first class passenger by name. She gave us a choice of beverage with a big smile.
She gave each of us a cheese tray, which was a great snack for a short flight. The snack basket had a selection.
She offered to refill drinks.
That is going beyond what is expected in first class.
Patrizia offered a beverage to everyone in economy class by herself.
She came back to first class and gave everyone a refill. She offered more food. She never sat down after giving two more beverage refill.
She was personable and happy.
By the end of the flight, she had memorised the names of the first class passengers and thanked them for their business.
A model flight attendant. I would love to fly with Patrizia every time I flew.
Patrizia shows how good service can affect your perception of a flight. I can't help but to be grateful and praise her for her service and smile. Thank you, Patrizia!
