Skywatchers have been waiting for the first solar eclipse of the year.
The partial solar eclipse began on April 30. Timeanddate.com is showing views from Argentina and Chile. The solar eclipse was first visible over the Southern Ocean off the coast of Antarctica, where few skywatchers could enjoy it.
The southern tip of South America became accessible to skywatchers after about an hour. The first views of the sun were shown on Timeanddate.com from El Colorado, about 50 kilometers away from Santiago. The time is at2030 GMT. You can watch the eclipse on Space.com.
How to watch a solar eclipse.
The partial eclipse of the moon will last for about an hour and a half until it ends over South America at 6:37 p.m. The time is 2 pm
There are some beautiful views to be had before the eclipse. The greatest eclipse will take place at 4:41 pm. Over the Southern Ocean. Timeanddate.com is also showing views from Santa Eufemia, Argentina, during the broadcast.
The next eclipse will be a total lunar eclipse on May 15 and the next solar eclipse on October 25.
