People seem to forget that there are two real people in the midst of this, who are having to relive the worst parts of their relationship. Even if we don't know the full truth of what happened between them, we know they are people who were in a complicated, volatile relationship and now their most intimate moments are being used for social media.
We have seen fans and self-appointed detectives comb over every detail of a public figure's life looking for clues before. Every day we see it with people who are obsessed with the Kardashians, are trying to understand Taylor Swift's motives, or are looking into the Petito case.
There is a huge difference in the number of views for videos under the #JusticeForAmberHeard and #JusticeForJohnny on TikTok. There have been 1,667 posts on Facebook this week using the #Dempsey, with a total of over 7 million interactions, and the one for Heard has just 16 posts with 10,415 interactions.
Their own personal accounts have been used by their fans to take on misinformation. Heard has been accused of copying other people's outfits and of faking her eyesight by wearing glasses the day before. There is a theory that Heard's attorney is trying to make her look bad in order to make her look like a bad person.
