Stone Mountain Park has canceled the Lasershow on Saturday. Natural areas, the campground, hotels and golf course are open. On Sunday, attractions will be open.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans are going to hold a gathering at Stone Mountain Park on Saturday, which is Confederate Memorial Day.

Stone Mountain Park has hosted Confederate Memorial Day before. The state of Georgia officially declared it a Confederate memorial site years ago, which is why the rally is being held there.

The permit for the event was denied because of the coronaviruses.

Protesters have clashed in the past with some of them spraying a Georgia State Patrol officer with pepper spray.

The Stone Mountain Memorial Association told Channel 2 Action News that they can't take away the permit for the rally this year.

The association's CEO told Channel 2 that the event was covered by the First Amendment. We will honor the First Amendment rights of all Georgians, as well as follow state law.

We tried to contact the Sons of Confederate Veterans, but they never responded.

There are plans for protests against Saturday's rally. None of those groups have filed for a permit, so far, according to the park.
