According to a Wall Street Journal report, a close associate of Musk told a far-right activist that he may get his account back after the billionaire bought the platform.
Charles Johnson was banned from the site in 2015 after he used it to raise money for Black Lives Matter activist DeRay McKesson.
The company said on Monday that it had accepted Musk's offer to buy it. The Journal reported that when Johnson heard about the offer, he sent a text to a man in Musk's personal investment office.
"When do I get my account back?" Johnson asked.
Birchall said that he hoped soon, according to The Journal.
Johnson could not be reached for comment. He wants his account back but doesn't plan to use it often.
Insider asked for comment from Musk, but he did not respond immediately.
Musk has said that he wants the platform to be a public platform for free speech, prompting speculation over how the platform will change and whether or not previously banned people will be allowed back on.
