Scott Fitterer waited patiently and traded into the third round for Ole Miss after rumors swirled that the Carolinas could trade for disgruntled Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.

While Fitterer didn't completely rule out adding a veteran to the quarterback room that now includes Sam Darnold, P.J. Walker and Corral, he emphatically said the Carolinas are happy with the group they have.

After Day 2 of the NFL draft, Fitterer said that they came into the weekend with the intention of getting a quarterback. We are going to go with this group.

After selecting NC State left tackle Ikem Ekwonu with the sixth overall pick, Carolina was left without another pick until the fourth round.

No quarterback was taken in the second round, which was the reason why Fitterer didn't have to make a trade for another quarterback.

The price would be considerably cheaper after the Atlanta Falcons and TennesseeTitans went in the third round. He traded Carolina's fourth-round pick to New England and the third-round pick to New England.

According to a league source, adding a quarterback in the draft was the first choice of Fitterer.

The two sides couldn't agree on a deal.

When the Seattle Seahawks drafted Russell Wilson in the third round in 2012 they needed a young guy to develop.

He finished his four years at Ole Miss with a 67.3% completion percentage. He had a ratio of 20 touchdown passes to five picks in 2021. He ran for 614 yards this season.

Matt Rhule said that he has seen the fastest release in a quarterback in quite some time. He is constantly working on his game.

For a young, developmental quarterback, he has all the physical tools. He seems to have the mental makeup.

The panthers were attracted to more than just statistics. Rhule noted how the teammates rallied around him to catch passes as he waited for the television networks to give him the go-ahead to throw on his pro day.

Rhule noted how teammates rallied around Corral after he was injured in the Sugar Bowl. He said that there were no major concerns about the quarterback's experience with depression.

Rhule said they would bring him along slowly and train him from the ground up. He has a lot to learn. He has a lot to do. I am so excited to have Matt Corral today.

I cannot wait for tomorrow. There is Kenny Chesney and this. What could be better in Charlotte?

The country music star was performing at Bank of America Stadium.

Corral was ready to start.

He said that he wanted to be an NFL quarterback since he was 6 years old. I am excited to get back to work and play football again.
