According to sources, Pittsburgh All-American Jordan Addison, who won the Biletnikoff Award as the country's top wide receiver in 2021, is considering transferring.

At a time when one-time transfer rules and name, image and likeness legislation have brought unprecedented roster flexibility to the sport, one of the top returning players in the sport is about to transfer.

The NCAA transfer portal hasn't yet been entered by Addison, who just completed his sophomore season. If he wants to be eligible for the upcoming season without needing a waiver, he has to do so before the May 1 deadline. This weekend is when a decision will be closely followed around the sport.

According to a source, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi called USC coach Lincoln Riley multiple times on Friday to express his displeasure after learning that USC was a potential destination. Pitt officials suspect that something could have happened.

Requests for comment from USC were not returned Friday night.

There is no preordained destination for the receiver and he could stay at Pittsburgh, according to a source close to him. The source said that any move would be tied to his professional development.

Kenny Pickett, a former Pitt quarterback, had the top target in 2021. Next season, there would be a new quarterback, offensive coach and position coach.

There is a chance that he will transfer to USC because he has a relationship with a star quarterback. They are both from Washington D.C. It is not uncommon for players to reach out and recruit other players, a tactic that has been amplified with the fact that there no longer is a requirement to sit out a year for a player's first transfer.

It would be a compelling market test for the value of an established college football star on the open market if he entered the NCAA transfer portal. There are clearly schools and collectives motivated to ensure college football programs become top destinations.

The top two wide receivers in the next NFL draft are expected to be Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Addison.

USC has taken 15 transfers since Riley was hired. USC's roster is expected to be vastly different between the spring game last Saturday and the start of the 2020 season according to Riley.
