The National Soccer Hall of Fame will be delayed until at least 2023 due to the in-patient alcohol treatment program that former United States women's national team goalkeeper Hope Solo is entering.

The mother of two was arrested in North Carolina on March 31 after she was found passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle with her children inside.

I have contacted the Hall of Fame and respectfully requested a postponement of my Hall of Fame ceremony to 2023. I will enter an in-patient alcohol treatment program to address my alcohol issues.

At this time, my focus is on my health, healing and taking care of my family. I would like to thank the Hall of Fame for their support and understanding.

The Hall of Fame issued a statement on Friday that said: "Legendary USWNT goalkeeper and 2022 National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee Hope Solo has chosen to defer her inducting until 2023." The NSHOF supports her decision and looks forward to honoring her at next year's ceremony.

According to an arrest record obtained by the sports network, the soccer player was found passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in a parking lot in North Carolina with her two children in the back seat. She was charged with driving while impaired, child endangering, and resisting arrest after she refused to get out of the car. She had her license suspended for one year after she refused a field sobriety test. She had her blood drawn.

She was released from jail after a night and is scheduled to appear in court on June 28.

controversy was not far away when it came to the career of Solo. She was suspended for 30 days in early 2015 after she and her husband were pulled over in a U.S. Soccer-owned van. The domestic violence charges against her were dropped after she was arrested.

She clashed with the U.S. Soccer Federation as well as coaches. She was benched by Greg Ryan before the World Cup semifinal against Brazil. The decision that was questioned by Solo was also seen as criticism of Briana Scurry.

Following the U.S. team's elimination from the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, Solo called Sweden "cowards" for their defensive tactics that saw the Swedes eventually prevail via a penalty shootout. She was dismissed from the team.

In addition to her 202 appearances for the U.S., she was part of the World Cup-winning side in 2015, as well as Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012.
