Some people in southern Mississippi heard a fireball from space and saw it before it exploded.

Some people felt their houses shake, but there were no injuries or damages.

The fireball was spotted at 8:03 a.m. The time is 1:45 pm. It ran parallel to the river.

He said the fireball was picked up by satellites 22,000 miles out in space. The fireball was already in the atmosphere.

The fireball was too small to do any damage and no pieces of it made it to the ground, he said.

One resident told The Vicksburg Post that she saw an orange fireball the size of a basketball, with a white tail behind it, heading west on a downward trajectory towards the Mississippi River.

The fireball disintegrated 34 miles above the swampy area north of Minorca in Louisiana, according to a statement from NASA. NASA said the fireball was 10 times brighter than the full moon.

A fireball was caught on camera in North Carolina at a speed of over 30,000 mph.

The fireball and others like it come from comets in space, according to Cooke, who works at Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama. The comets move around the sun and their ice and particles melt.

There are also asteroids that break apart. Jupiter's gravity and other factors can change the Earth's position.

The fireball over Mississippi was caused by a piece of an asteroid about a foot across. The booms and the shaking were caused by the pressure waves that broke apart.

Pressure built up in the front as the fireball got deeper in the atmosphere. The fireball broke apart when the pressure difference between the front and back of it became stronger.

A fireball raced across the Midwest sky, but it was not a natural fireball, according to a group.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency sent NASA a request after people started calling in. It's rare to see and hear a fireball like this in this corner of Mississippi, but it can happen anywhere.

Even though there were clear skies, more people heard it than saw it.
