As of this summer, the new airline has put flights on sale.

The basics of Norse Atlantic Airways

Norse Atlantic Airways will be launching flights this year. A low cost business model will allow the airline to operate a fleet of Boeing 787s from major European gateways to major gateways in the United States.

The idea behind the airline sounds familiar. This is what Norwegian did, until they decided to focus on short haul flying, as the airline was on the verge of insolvency. The airline is run by some former Norwegian executives, and they are even flying former Norwegian planes.

It's not clear if Norwegian is more successful than Norse in long haul flying.

Norse Atlantic Airways’ first routes & launch dates

Norse was delayed due to higher fuel prices and travel restrictions, but is finally ready to sell tickets. As of the following dates, tickets for travel between OSL and four airports in the United States are on sale.

  • Flights to New York (JFK) start as of June 14, 2022
  • Flights to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) start as of June 20, 2022
  • Flights to Los Angeles (LAX) start as of June 20, 2022
  • Flights to Orlando (MCO) start as of June 20, 2022

You can expect many more routes to be added in the coming months. The airline will fly to more airports than initially planned. The initial plan was for Norse to fly to Stewart instead of JFK.

Norse Atlantic Airways fares

There are attractive fares for Norse tickets at flynorse.com. It's pretty difficult to beat the $129 one-way fare based on booking.

Norse’s introductory transatlantic fares

As you would expect from an ultra low cost carrier, there are several different fare types and both economy and premium economy will be offered by Norse. The basic fares only include a small bag. If you want a carry-on bag, a checked bag, and a meal, you will have to pay an extra $90 each way.

You will have to pay an extra $270 each way if you want to have your ticket changeable or be able to select a seat.

Norse’s economy fare classes

Premium economy fares start at $349 each way. Premium boarding, a carry-on bag, two meal services, and priority check-in are included in these fares. If you want the ticket to be changeable and an extra checked bag, you'll have to pay more.

Bottom line

As of this summer, Norse Atlantic Airways has flights on sale. The airline will use Boeing jets to fly to four destinations in the US. The introductory fares are reasonable, but you will have to pay more for things like bags, food, etc.

With the increases in airfare we have seen recently, there is no denying that Norse will be great for consumers. I question the viability of this business model, given that long haul airlines don't have a great track record. Hopefully the airline can use the lower cost structure of Norse to its advantage.
