I have always been a big fan of technology. I can't remember a time when I didn't have it. Technology has changed so much in my lifetime that I can't remember a time when it didn't.
I never felt I could be involved in creating it despite being around tech. This needs to change. Technology can be made by anyone. We need to make sure that girls and young women have the chance to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Girlguiding's newly expanded programme with Google will give nearly 400,000 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers more opportunities to learn.
We need to change the way girls and young women view science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Girlguiding's Girls' Attitudes Survey found that half of girls aged 11-21 saw science, technology, engineering and math as a career path. Girls of this age are making choices about their future, but sadly, they are being impacted by preconceived notions.
There is a lack of women role models in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Girls who are interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics are often teased. 27% of girls aged 11 to 21 think that teachers and career advisers encourage girls to do different subjects than boys.
The need for groups like Girlguiding to work with organizations like Google to change this is highlighted by these numbers.
The Digital Adventure for Brownies and Digital Design Badge for Rangers were launched by Girlguiding. More than 15,000 girls have taken part.
We're expanding our partnership to give more girls and young women opportunities to learn about coding and other coding related topics.
Happy appy for Rainbows to learn about app designs is one of the new activities.
The Skills for my Future theme is the basis of the new activities. All four Girlguiding sections have been created to be completed offline to ensure they are accessible to all girls.
Our goal is to make sure the next generation of girls and young women are encouraged to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Thanks to the Girlguiding partnership, nearly 400,000 girls like me in the UK will get new opportunities to learn the skills they need to break through stereotypes and become tech pioneers.
I want to see the Rainbows or Brownies of today on the front cover of a newspaper showing off their discoveries and inventions. Girlguiding is working to help build a future where more girls and young women feel confident to help change the world.
