James Corden has hosted The Late Late Show for seven-and-a-half years, but he has only signed a one-year extension. He will be leaving after that.

During an emotional speech on Thursday night, Corden explained his reasons for leaving and said how much he has enjoyed his time so far.

This will be my last year as host of the show, Corden says in the clip above. I didn't see it as my final destination. I don't want this show to stay too long; I always want to love making it.

Corden thinks it will be a good time to move on and see what else is out there.

This has been the hardest decision I have ever had to make. I have never taken this job for granted. Not once. It's an absolute privilege for me and every single person who makes this show to be able to try and entertain you and spend time with you. It is going to be a blast, I promise you that.
