The man is in a state prison and was exposed to the disease while working at a commercial farm in Montrose County, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

The man tested positive for the A(H5) virus on Tuesday and the CDC confirmed the result on Wednesday, the CDPHE said.

It is possible that the person did not get sick from the virus, as it is possible that the virus was present in his nose.

The man is described as younger than 40 and is currently taking the antiviral drug oseltamivir, also known as tamiflu.

No other cases have been confirmed in humans in Colorado or the U.S.

Surprising Fact

The first human case of this particular version of the H5N1 avian flu to be recorded around the world was an elderly British man who lived with a number of ducks.

The H5N1 flu is a type of flu that can be passed on to humans. It can be lethal and highly contagious and is devastating to both wild and commercial bird populations. Millions of birds have been culled to stop the spread of the disease, and health officials have warned people to avoid contact with birds that are sick or dead. Many bird owners, such as zoos, have relocated them inside to reduce the risk of exposure from wild birds.

Big Number
