A growing number of companies have abandoned their return-to-office plans and are allowing their employees to work remotely. The employees were told that they could move to anywhere in the country without having their compensation reduced.

In September 2022, the company wanted to return employees to the office. Brian Chesky, the company's chief executive, supports workplace models that give people more flexibility to travel, noting that about one in five guests last year reported usingAirbnb to work remotely.

The policy on remote-work is the latest effort by the company to encourage people to use its listings as offices. At the height of the Pandemics in May 2020, one-third of American workers were still remote. In the summer of 2015, the company introduced Live Anywhere, a yearlong program that gave 12 people the chance to travel the globe while working from Airbnb locations.

In recent weeks, some tech companies, like Microsoft, have tried to create office environments that are as appealing as a vacation spot, with games like corn hole, and fried chicken and wine tastings for employees going back to their commute.
