Mets, Cardinals benches clear after Arenado charges the mound (2:03)

Nolan Arenado was ejected after he charged the mound. There is a time and a place.

7:10 PM ET

Nolan Arenado and Genesis Cabrera were both suspended by Major League Baseball for their roles in the benches-clearing brawl in their 10-5 win over the New York Mets at Busch Stadium.

The league announced Thursday that Arenado received a two-game suspension for his part in the incident. Both were fined.

Arenado will play in the game against Arizona. The suspension will be served Thursday.

The major-league leading 19 hit by pitch by the Mets this season was hit by J.D. Davis in the top of the eighth. On Tuesday, the Mets were hit by three pitches from St. Louis.

New York appeared to retaliate against Arenado when Mets pitcher Yoan Lopez threw a 94 mph pitch near his head. The benches cleared and the teams pushed and shoved near home plate after Arenado yelled for Lopez to do it again.

The crew chief said that Arenado was ejected for charging the mound. Lopez was in the game.

Two other players were fined for joining the benches-clearing brawl while on the injured list, and Lopez received an undisclosed fine for his role in the incident.
