According to CNN, the US left $7 billion worth of military equipment in Afghanistan after it withdrew last year.

In 2005, thousands of US troops entered Afghanistan and remained there until August 2021. The Taliban captured Kabul as the US wound up its military operations.

The US left behind a large amount of weapons, planes, vehicles, and other equipment when it left Afghanistan.

According to a report obtained by CNN, the US military gave the Afghan government $18.6 billion in arms and equipment to fight the Taliban during the 16-year occupation.

$7 billion worth of equipment remained in the country after the withdrawal of all US troops in August, according to the Pentagon.

The aircraft that were demilitarized and left inoperable were worth $923 million.

The report said that $6.5 million was left behind, and 300,000 weapons.

It is not clear what condition the weapons are in. In August of 2021, the US military said that a lot of the equipment they left behind was destroyed.

The Pentagon said in the report that it has no plan to retrieve or destroy equipment, CNN said.

The Taliban used US-made equipment to solidify their grip on power, as reported in reports at the time of the resurgence.

According to CNN, the Pentagon report said that before the US withdrew from Afghanistan, it transferred five helicopters to Ukraine for maintenance.
