For the past three years, the number of active users has been overstated.
The company admitted this in its earnings report.
In March of 2019, we launched a feature that allowed people to link multiple separate accounts in order to switch between them. The actions taken via the primary account resulted in all linked accounts being counted as mDAU. The report says that this resulted in an overstatement of mDAU.
The largest difference in users counted was in the last quarter of the year.
The company has 229 million active users, so the error doesn't have a huge impact on the results. It is telling that this is not the first time that it has happened, and that it was a mistake that was made in the past.
The company reported Q1 revenue of $1.2 billion, a 16 percent year-over-year increase, and a massive net income increase from $68 million in Q1 2021, to $513 million.
The company said that it would not be providing any forward looking guidance, and that it was withdrawing all previously provided goals and outlook.
