New images of debris on the red planet were snapped by the Ingenuity helicopter. It was not aliens.

The images were taken from a height of 26 feet and show the cables that connected the backshell to the supersonic parachute.

The space agency said the cable is intact.

NASA said in a news release that the backshell and parachute helped protect the rover in deep space.

NASA said the debris field is the result of the backshell and parachute hitting the Martian surface at a speed of 78 mph after it released the Perseverance rover.

NASA said that the canopy shows no signs of damage from the supersonic air.

Only a small portion of the parachute is visible in the images.

NASA said analysis of the images could provide insight into future missions to Mars.

Ian Clark, former Perseverance systems engineer and current Mars Sample Return ascent phase lead, said in a news release that Perseverance had the best documented Mars landing in history. It will be amazing if they either reinforce that our systems worked as we think they worked or provide a single dataset of engineering information that we can use for Mars Sample Return planning. The pictures are still amazing.

NASA's biggest and most advanced rover on Mars, the Perseverance, will look for signs of life in an area scientists believe was once a river delta. It will take samples, seal them in tubes, and bring them back to Earth in a future mission.
