Monica McNutt talked about the Elite Eight win over NC State. There is a time and a place for this.

Diana Taurasi is not going anywhere.

Not for a while.

The Phoenix Mercury guard said Wednesday that she doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon, as she's set to start her 18th WNBA season next week.

I plan on playing for a while, and I will let you know when I'm done. I will stop playing when I am done playing. I will not ease my way out.

I want to play, but I won't if I suck. I will be in those workouts in the winter and be like, "Hmm, that's it."

The 39-year-old doesn't think basketball mortality has overtaken her just yet, despite the fact that she is in the final year of a two-year contract extension.

"I still feel like I have a little bit left, and a lot to do," he said.

The Mercury's first-year coach says she hopes to save the "tread" on Taurasi for game days, but getting to that point will be a constant challenge.

She said that her daily schedule will change dramatically this season because it just has to.

She said that in her first 15 years, she would not have thought of taking a practice off. There is no day off, what days are going to be low days?

It is almost harder. It was easier when I practiced every day. There is a laundry list of things that I have to do to be ready to play on game nights, and that is the goal at this point.

The plan will be a collaboration between the Mercury and Taurasi, who will be 40 in June.

I don't think long-term projection makes sense because it's a body.

She said her focus heading into this season has been trying to get better, and what she has to do on a daily basis to get on the court.

There are certain things that I still mentally and physically are altering all the time to be able to stay on the court and help this team win and hopefully make another run deep into the playoffs. I could be sitting on the couch.

I am an addiction. What can I say?

Tina Charles said that Taurasi is the first player in the building. Diggins-Smith doesn't believe that Taurasi will leave without a farewell tour.

Diggins-Smith thinks that she doesn't have to have a big thing. Is she deserving a lot? Yeah.

While she said she will know when it is time to retire, walking away won't be easy because she tries to be very honest with herself. It is not something she thought much about.

It is not a decision that I think about until it is time to go.

After last season ended with a loss to the Chicago Sky, she took a couple of months off and went to Australia with her husband and two kids. When she came back, she started preparing for the season and not thinking about retirement.

I don't think that far into the future. She said that she is present where she is at as far as her basketball career.
