Following Musk's takeover of the social media platform, some users may be running for the hills. Right-wing conservatives have gained followers while popular democrats have lost followers in a few major accounts.
The communication office wrote in an e-mail that they have been looking into recent fluctuations in follower counts.
According to NBC News, former President Obama lost 300,000 followers overnight. After the announcement that the world's richest person had just bought the social media platform, the third most followed account lost more than 200,000 followers.
Donald Trump Jr. noted his increase in popularity. He gained 87,000 followers in one day. The son of the former president suggested that his new follower count may be due to the lifting of an alleged shadow ban on certain accounts.
Right-wing figureheads have accused the social network of suppressing the reach of their accounts by imposing a shadow ban on some of their posts.
