Some Apple Watch Series 6 models may have an issue that causes their display to go blank. Apple says you can get it fixed for free.

The program was quietly launched last week. The issue only affects 40mm models of the Series 6. Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will fix the issue for free if you have an eligible watch.

You need to know your device's serial number to check for eligibility. If your Series 6 display is blanked out, you should head to the watch app on your phone. Select General, tap About, and scroll down to the serial number. You can input the number from the website.

The issue only affects 40mm models of the Series 6 made between April and September 2021

You have a number of options when it comes to getting the device serviced. You can either go to an authorized repair shop or go to an Apple Store. If you prefer to mail the device for repair, you can contact Apple Support.

There is some fine print as always. The standard warranty of the device will not be extended by the fix. If the service presents itself while you are traveling, you might have to wait to get it serviced in the country or region where you bought it. If your Series 6 has any other type of damage, you may be saddled with additional repair fees. There is a time limit for the program. If you bought your device secondhand, Apple says eligible Series 6 models will be covered for only two years after first retail sale.
