On April 3, one week before his 28th birthday, Christian Obumseli was stabbed to death by his girlfriend in a luxury Miami high-rise apartment.

Clenney, a white social media influencer and OnlyFans model who has millions of followers, called the police after she stabbed Obumseli, a Black investor. The Miami Herald reported that Obumseli died from a stab wound to the chest when police arrived at the couple's apartment. Clenney told police that she acted in self-defense after fearing for her life.

She was hospitalized for a mental health evaluation under Florida's Baker Act, which provides emergency mental health services and temporary detention for people at risk of suicide or a mental health crisis, but she was soon released and was spotted at a hotel bar five days after the stabbing.

Miami Police did not comment on the decision not to charge Clenney, instead sending an official statement about the incident.

The preliminary investigation found that Mr. Obumseli and the female had been involved in a physical altercation.

Clenney and Obumseli were known to police prior to the fatal stabbing. According to the Miami Herald, officers were called to the apartment at least four times in the last few months, but no arrests were ever made.

The charges against Clenney have not been filed three weeks after the incident.

Larry Handfield, an attorney for the Obumseli family, told Yahoo News that the family just wants accountability.

The family's frustration with the police began at the beginning. Miami police did not inform Handfield about Obumseli's death. The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine called them two days after the killing asking if they would like to donate Obumseli's organs. The family thought it was a prank. The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine did not respond to requests for comment.

The family flew to Miami from Texas to meet with detectives the next day and were frustrated that the police seemed to have already made up their minds about the events surrounding Obumseli's death. Handfield said that they felt disrespected by the police.

He said that the detective reached his conclusion in less than 24 hours. That is not appropriate and should never happen.

Karen Egbuna, Obumseli's cousin, said at a press conference five days after the killing that there was no reason to believe that it was a case of self defense.

He thinks that Clenney received preferential treatment because she is white.

If she were black, she would have been arrested and police would have let the process play itself out.

If Clenney's statement did not hold up, she would have been arrested, according to Clenney's lawyer.

He said that he didn't believe privilege played a role.

There is evidence of domestic violence that proves the couple had a tumultuous relationship.

They have a history of being physical with each other.

Clenney is in therapy after the incident.

He said that a young man lost his life, but that it was self-defense.

Clenney has pending cases in other states, including a 2020 arrest in Texas for driving under the influence and an outstanding bench warrant for public intoxication in California.

According to CBS Miami, friends and acquaintances of Obumseli and Clenney said the couple had broken up last month, and that Obumseli was sleeping in common areas of their Miami apartment in the days leading up to the stabbing.

Prior to the evening of April 3, when Clenney hit Obumseli, she and her friends had not seen him hit anyone else.

She said that Christian wouldn't put her in a position where she would need to stab him to protect herself.

A neighbor with a direct view of the couple's apartment said he had seen Obumseli throw a punch at Clenney a week prior to the fatal stabbing.

The Obumselis have a lack of faith in the Miami Police Department and are conducting their own investigation.

There are a lot of witnesses who can show that the person was aggressive throughout the relationship.

Jeffrey Obumseli created a GoFundMe to raise money for a funeral, litigation and counseling. The effort had raised more than $81,000 by Wednesday morning.
