Following the Russian invasion, the Ukrainian football season has ended.

The league said after a video conference with clubs on Tuesday that the championship cannot be completed because of the Russian invasion.

The league said there wouldn't be an official award at that time.

If Ukrainian clubs are able to take part in the European competition, qualification for the next season could be determined. The Ukrainian Football Association must approve the decision.

The home stadium of FC Mariupol is now under Russian control and the stadium of Desna Chernihiv was destroyed by bombardments.

Shakhtar and Dynamo Kyiv, the two biggest teams in Ukraine, are traveling to Europe to play a series of charity games against clubs from around the world to raise funds for people affected by the war.

Zorya Luhansk, a top-division club in Ukraine, has been based in other parts of the country since Shakhtar had to leave their home city of Donetsk.

The Ukrainian men are still in the running to qualify for the World Cup. The winner of the game between Scotland and Ukraine on June 1 will play the winner of the game between Wales and Ukraine four days later for a spot in the tournament in Qatar.
