When Moreu was a child, his father was an officer in the Spanish navy and he wanted nothing more than to be an officer himself. The navy wouldn't take him because of the side effects of antibiotics, which left him deafness in one ear. Seaplace is Spain's top marine design firm. He has collaborated in the design of ships for the navy of Spain, Norway, and other countries, as well as introducing innovations for massive new oil and gas exploration platforms in the North Sea and Brazil. The firm has moved into clean energy with new designs.
He came to MIT to study Ocean Engineering, which merged with mechanical engineering in 2005. His brain was constantly working on solutions, and after graduation he and another man founded Seaplace as a division of a British company. It has 50 naval engineers who generate $2.4 million in sales. The firm designed drill ships and floating production storage and offloading units, which combine production and storage on a vessel.
