We are not in for a good time, as the United Nations has issued yet another frightening report about our future.

The UN Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction is published every other year and outlines ways to mitigate catastrophic risk. The report tells us that we are living in a hell of our own creation.

Over the past two decades, about 300 and 500 medium-to-large-scale disasters have occurred per year, but the number is going to increase to an average of 560 disasters per year by the year 2030.

The report says these disasters are being worsened by the collective posturing from global decision-makers.

The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction blamedoptimism, underestimation and invincibility for the increasing number and severity of global disasters.

The UN deputy secretary-general said in the statement that the world needs to do more to incorporate disaster risk in how we live, build and invest.

Mohammed said that we must turn our collective apathy to action.

Say It Ain’t So

The adoption and implementation of protocols it suggested previously have already reduced both the number of people killed and the number of people impacted by disasters over the past decade.

The scale and intensity of disasters are increasing, with more people killed or affected by disasters in the last five years than in the previous five.

This report feels necessary as climate catastrophe continues to ravage our planet before our very eyes.

The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction found that the broken risk perception is reversing global progress.

The UN is taking carbon removal very seriously.
