According to a press release posted to multiple sites, the digital versions of Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic CD will be delist on May 20th. The announcement is very light. The games being pulled will be included in the upcoming Sonic Origins collection, but you could read it faster than a speedrunner.
This seems to be an issue for PC players. Only 2 and CD are available to purchase separately on the Xbox, and the games aren't available individually on the PS Store. All the games are available on Steam. You will be able to play Sonic 1 and 2 on the Nintendo Switch, or you will be able to play Sonic 2 on the GameCube.
There will be a month-long gap between the release of Origins and Sonic CD, meaning that you can't easily buy it. Even ignoring the gap, it's still annoying that Sega is taking away the ability to legally buy games individually and not bundled with other games you don't want.
You could get the games being delisted for $20 on Steam
That's true because of pricing. The games being delisted will cost $5 each, whereas Sonic Origins will cost $40. If you don't want one or two of those games, you may have to pay a lot more.
The press release is short on details, which leaves a few things unclear. Sonic Origins is not the first collection of games. What about the Genesis Classics collection? It includes Sonic 1 and 2 on the Switch and other consoles, as well as Sonic 3 on the PC version. Will those collections be lighter for people to buy after May 20th?
The company's press site has not been able to get anyone to answer the questions that were attempted to be reached through it. We will let you know if we hear back.
