The studio display users who have the macOS Monterey 12.4 alpha installed on their Macs can get the new studio display build. We thought we would take a quick look at the changes in action after the update included a fix for the webcam.

Reviewers noticed that the webcam wasn't performing as expected before the launch of the studio display. It was described as washed out, noisy, and poor quality.

After these complaints came out, Apple said that it discovered an issue where the system is not behaving as expected, and promised a fix in a future software update. Apple says that it has improved the camera, noise reduction, and contrast with the fix.

If you watch our video above, there are quality updates, but the difference is subtle. The colors are more vibrant and the contrast is better. The changes seem to be an improvement over the old one.

There is a clear change to the framing of the photos and video that Six Colors shared with us. When using Center Stage, there is less zoom, which means the video capture is not as good.

Those hoping for a dramatic change from Apple may be disappointed. There is an improvement in skin tones and overall color, but it is still the same 12-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, so Apple is limited to software changes.

When the new version of Monterey sees a public release, the studio display owners will be able to see the 15.5 update. The public and developers have access to the alpha.
