On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his forces into Ukraine, and they initially occupied parts of the country.

According to Western intelligence officials, the Kremlin believed that Russian forces could win the war in a matter of days.

Russia took control of a large swath of territory along the northern border of Ukraine by early March and then took control of border territory in the north, east, and south by the end of the month.

Despite bombarding the city and its suburbs, Russian forces were not able to break through to Kyiv. Russian forces were pushed away from the country's north by Ukrainian counteroffensives in April.

The Pentagon said at the time that Putin had not achieved any objectives.

The US Secretary of State said on Tuesday that the Ukrainians had won the battle for Kyiv. Today is firmly Ukraine's.

At the end of the time-lapse, which shows the war&s latest developments as of late April, there is significant fighting now focused on the eastern part of the country.

After the failures in the north, NATO and the West warned that Russia was going to launch a renewed offensive in the Donbas, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said last week that the war officially entered a new phase.
