Our hearts are broken, hearing of the loss of one of our student-athletes. JMU president Jonathan Alger and athletic director Jeff Bourne said in a statement that Lauren Bernett was a high-achieving member of the softball team.

College athletics is great because of the people we get to interact with. We are a close family. Lauren is a member of the JMU athletics community and will always consider herself to be a Duke. We will miss her.
