There will be a partial solar eclipse for parts of South America on April 30.

There are two common definitions for the term "Black Moon", which is not an official term.

  1.  The second new moon in a single calendar month.
  2.  The third new moon in a season of four new moons.

A new moon is when the Earth-facing side of the moon is completely obscured by the sun. The Black Moon will be more or less invisible.

What is a Black Moon?

We didn't experience any Black Moons in 2021.

Because the lunar calendar almost coincides with Earth's calendar year, there is usually one full moon and one new moon each month. A Black Moon is the second new moon in a single month. The most common type of Black Moon is the Black Moon that occurs once every 29 months.

A Black Moon is an extra full moon in a season. Three months is a long time on Earth, so they have three new moons. The third new moon in a season is called a Black Moon. According to Time and Date, these seasonal Black Moons occur once every 33 months.

The moon is always black during the new moon phase. It happens at that time of the month when the moon passes through the same part of the sky as the sun. There isn't anything to see.

Since there are times when the new moon passes directly between Earth and the sun, we can see the moon's black silhouette crossing in front of the sun, causing a solar eclipse. The sun will be partially obscured by the Black Moon.

It is not possible to see a full moon with a Black Moon, unlike a supermoon which gets a lot of people looking at it.

You can see a small crescent moon low in the western twilight sky about 30 or 40 minutes after sunset.

The appearance of a thin lunar crescent is wrongly referred to as the "new moon" in popular literature. In his classic work A Night to Remember, Walter Lord quotes a fireman in a boat who saw a crescent low in the sky and exclaimed, "A new moon!"
