Another day, another scam. The Bored Ape Yacht Club and holders of its NFT apes were the targets this time.

The official account of the Bored Ape Yacht Club announced on Monday that their account was hacked.

There is no mint going on today, according to the BAYC account. Don't mint anything, click links, or link your wallet to anything.

The warning seems to have been too late. The hacker used the access to their advantage. The link shared by the BAYC was for Bored Ape investors to connect their wallet and collect an exclusive freebie for BAYC holders only.

Their ape-NFT-holding-wallets were dry because of that link. According to Web3 Is Going Great creator Molly White, approximately 44 people fell for the scam, which resulted in 133 NFTs being stolen from their owners.

The wall hacker's wallet address was dug into by a Blockchain investigator and he found that 4 Bored Apes, 7 Mutant Apes, and 3 Bored Ape Kennel Club NFTs were among the highly-valued NFTs stolen. The stolen NFTs are estimated to be worth $3 million.

The thief is already selling the non-fungible token on the NFT aftermarket. According to Molly White, 23 of the stolen NFTs have sold so far for a total of over two million dollars.

It is not clear how the BAYC account was hacked. BAYC owner Yuga Labs said in a statement that two-factor authentication should have made it difficult for someone to get into the account.
