According to a statement he provided to Fox News, former President Donald Trump will not be returning to social media if his account is restored. On the same day that the company accepted Musk's offer to acquire the publicly traded company at $54.20/share, Trump commented on the matter.

The announcement led to speculation that Trump may return to the social media platform if he is allowed to, but it looks like he is not interested and is instead planning to join his own Truth Social platform over the next seven days.

Trump told Fox News that he would stay on Truth, and that he hoped that someone would buy Twitter. The bottom line is that I am not going back to the social networking site.

Following the January 6 attack on the capitol, Trump was permanently banned from the social network in January 2021. The company had maintained his account under its special guidance for world leaders and information in the public interest.

The shares of Digital World Acquisition Corp, which announced a deal in October to acquire Trump Media and Technology Group, fell as the deal with Musk was announced. It's possible that Truth's shaky start could cause Trump to change his mind about rejoining Twitter.

The Truth Social app was unavailable to users for quite some time after it was released in February. Truth is being marketed as an alternative to social media giants. It will mark the return of the former president to social media if Trump posts on Truth regularly this week. He only posted on Truth once.

Free speech is key to the future of the company, according to Musk. The transaction, which was unanimously approved by the board, is expected to close this year.
