Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) wears a “Trump Won” face mask as she arrives on the floor of the House to take her oath of office as a newly elected member of the 117th House of Representatives in Washington, U.S., January 3, 2021.

Text messages show that a Republican lawmaker urged a top White House aide to talk to the president about martial law after the Capitol Hill riot.

In a private chat with only members, several are saying the only way to save our Republic is for Trump to call for Marshall law, according to CNN.

Martial law is the emergency power that the military has over the government.

I don't know about those things. I just wanted you to tell him that they stole the election. We are all aware. Next, they will destroy our country. Please tell him to declassify so we can go after Biden.

CNN reported that Meadows did not reply. CNBC asked for comment on the report, but the office of Greene did not respond immediately.

The text was sent three days before Trump was to leave office. Less than two weeks earlier, a violent crowd of Trump's supporters broke through police lines and invaded the U.S. Capitol building, forcing Congress into hiding and temporarily delaying their efforts to confirm Biden's victory.

The mob was spurred toward the Capitol by Trump, who had spent weeks lying about the election. The integrity of the 2020 election was frequently sowed doubts by the man who has a history of embracing right-wing conspiracy theories.

Politicians from both parties and Trump's own attorney general have all denied that the 2020 election outcome was affected by voter fraud.

In a December 2020 text published by CNN, she asked for advice on how to prepare for objections to certifying the election on January 6.

She asked for a follow-up meeting with Rudy Giuliani, the former lawyer for Trump who was involved in failed efforts to overturn Biden's wins in key swing states.

According to CNN, it obtained the texts from Greene as part of a trove of 2,319 texts that were sent to and from Meadows between Election Day 2020 and Biden's inauguration two months later. The texts show communications with dozens of Republican lawmakers, as well as other White House officials and several of Trump's adult children.

After sharing those messages with the House select committee, which was investigating the Capitol riot, he stopped cooperating and is now suing to quash two of the panel's subpoenas.

In a recent filing, the committee shared a transcript from an interview with an ex- Trump aide who said that the president had warned him about the potential for violence.

CNBC requested to verify the texts reported by CNN, but a spokesman for the select committee declined.

On Friday, she testified under oath in a longshot legal challenge to disqualify her from running for a second term in Congress due to her alleged involvement in the Capitol riot.

During nearly four hours of testimony, she couldn't remember details about the events or the planning.

Before the inauguration in 2021, did you advocate for martial law with the President of the United States?

I don't recall, I replied.

According to Ron Fein, an attorney leading the bid to remove Greene from the ballot, the newly revealed texts show that she was dishonest about her call for martial law.
