The 49ers exercised the fifth-year option on Nick Bosa's contract.

The No. 2 overall draft pick will make over $17 million in the next five years.

Bosa has been one of the best pass-rushers in the league since he first stepped on the field. He won the defensive rookies of the year award and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2019.

The 49ers reached the Super Bowl because he had four sacks in the playoffs.

Bosa missed most of the 2020 season with an injured knee, but bounced back with a league-best 21 tackles for loss and a league-best 15.5 sacks in 2011.

The 49 total pressures were third in the NFL.

San Francisco had the third-ranked defense in yards allowed in 2021, but Bosa's presence made a difference. The 49ers finished with a 6-10 record when the pass-rusher was injured.

With Bosa under contract for two more seasons, the two sides have time to work on a long-term deal.
