A giant squid washed up on a beach in western Japan, giving an ultra-rare glimpse of one of the biggest squids known to exist, and likely the first time a live specimen has ever been taken into captivity.
The squid was found alive despite being a long way from home. It was taken to a local aquarium in the city of Sakai.
Agence France-Presse shared a video of a giant creature in a shallow pool.
It is not looking likely that the squid is still alive.

Several deep sea research vessels have seen giant squids. Last year, a camera platform recorded amazing footage of the giants.
The juvenile giant footage was obtained by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The agency thinks it was between 10 and 12 feet long.
We don't know a lot about the species. According to National Geographic, carcasses have been found in all of the Earth's oceans.
They have the largest eyes in the animal kingdom, measuring ten inches across and allowing them to see even in the dark.
The largest squid to have ever been recorded was almost 43 feet long. The corpse found in 1887 may have been over sixty feet long.
Scientists still like giant squids. Sightings are incredibly rare, but they are just part of the appeal.
