Mark Gurman, who has a strong track record of reporting Apple leaks and rumors, wrote in his Power On newsletter that Apple is working on an all-in-one iMac.

Gurman wrote earlier this month that Apple was testing at least nine Macs with different versions of the M2 processor. The MacBook Air, Mac mini, entry-level MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16 are currently undergoing testing. Apple is considering a Mac mini with an M1 Pro chip.

Apple mapping out its M3 lineup years in advance is nothing new. This could be a sign of a goal to release a new line of M-series desktop processors each year, a launch cadence that could pressure Intel andAMD to keep pace.

Gurman's report makes us wonder if Apple will skip an M2 iMac and go straight to the M3 after a long break. It wouldn't be a complete shock since Apple waits longer to update its iMac devices than it does with its laptops. Gurman recently said an M2 iMac was in development and could debut in the next few months, but I am not so sold.

The iMac Pro isn't dead, so those looking for an upgrade to the iMac should take solace in that. According to Gurman, it's in development but won't arrive anytime soon. There is no word on whether the iMac will get the same treatment.

We think new Macs will debut on June 6 when Apple holds its annual conference. An updated version of the Mac Pro and a redesign of the MacBook Air could be included.
