The people who live or work in Beijing's main business district will be required to take three Covid-19 tests this week after local officials raised alarms that the virus had spread.

The largest district in the capital, which houses 3.45 million residents, is also home to several embassies and foreign businesses.

There have been 47 new Covid infections in the city since Saturday, which led to targeted lock downs of specific apartment buildings.

The schools in the city are still open, but officials have banned all group activities and gatherings, including training programs, arts and sports, CNBC reported.

As China is in the midst of its worst Covid-19 outbreak since the start of the Pandemic, there has been a rise in cases.
