The Kansas City Royals have unveiled their City Connect uniforms, a tribute to the city's art Deco architecture.
Royals senior vice president Sarah Tourville said that they have been a huge part of Kansas City that embellish the streets.
The original franchise logo from 1969 is an homage to the logo on the sleeve. The triple braiding on the sleeves is reminiscent of the team's uniform from the 1980s, while the new number styling is a reference to the city's art Deco architecture. There is a nod to the Royals victory song on the inside of the collar.
While the Royals are usually associated with powder blue, the navy uniform is a reference to the city's baseball history with the Athletics, Monarchs, Blues, Blue Sox and Packers all wearing the uniform at one point or another.
Tourville said that the only thing they didn't do was put BBQ on.
The Royals were choosing between designs that were related to the city's relationship with barbecue and jazz.
John Sherman, Royals CEO, said that the design is one that fans of any age can truly appreciate. The uniform shows the different elements of our community.
The New York Yankees will be the opponent for the City Connect uniforms on April 30.
