Warren continued by calling on Republicans to shift their priorities, saying they understood the gravity of the insurrection and spent time trying to overturn election results rather than building an economy.

Shame on Kevin McCarthy, said Warren.

Warren's comments are in line with other Democrats' criticism of McCarthy's actions.

The release of audio recordings in which McCarthy said he was considering asking Donald Trump to resign after the Capitol attack has led to scrutiny of McCarthy.

McCarthy said of Trump over the phone that what he did was unacceptable. Nobody can defend that, and nobody should defend it.

McCarthy denied an initial report about his comments, but The New York Times later released the recording on MSNBC.

The former president has shown his support for McCarthy.

I think it is a big compliment. Trump told The Wall Street Journal that they supported him.

Representatives for Warren and McCarthy didn't respond to Insider's requests for comment.
