China's COVID zero policy isn't exactly going as planned. According to a new report published Friday, COVID-19 cases are on the rise and cause civilian deaths despite strict lockdown rules.
There were 23,370 new infections reported in Shanghai on Friday, a sharp increase from the previous day. The patients who died on Friday were mostly elderly and had underlying conditions. The deaths make the total death toll from recent infections equal 48 people.
The top epidemiologist in China said during a state media interview that they are not ready to loosen the Covid zero policy.
The current policies aren't really protecting everyone.
The previous Futurism coverage showed people screaming out their windows in protest of the lack of food and supplies in the city. The government doesn't seem to be able to provide adequate food and ration for its people.
The government seems to be trying to quiet the residents' rage, but the media seems unable to do so. A previous video clip shows a recording about controlling thehunger for freedom being broadcast from a drone flying around apartments and neighborhoods.
It's terrible to know that people are still falling ill with COVID and that community elders have passed away. The importance of high risk populations is the same.
Surely, starvation, mass protest and what is essentially house arrest aren't the best solutions China's government can come up with.
There are more troubles in Shanghai.
