Finnair A350 flew me to London. The new Finnair Business Class and Premium Economy cabin are on this flight. You can try out the new Business Class on flights between London and Amsterdam.

Finnair Business Class Lounge Helsinki

I went to the Business Class Lounge early because my flight leaves at 8am. Few passengers from the Far East arrived early in the lounge.

The Finnair Business Class Lounge has nice Nordic decor. On a Saturday morning, it was not crowded. The food is usually Nordic. The Platinum Lounge has a Finnish Sauna, but it is currently closed.

The New Finnair Business Class

The entire front section of the A350 was occupied by the new Finnair Business Class, with an additional mini cabin of 12 suites after door 2.

In the up right position, the leg room is limited. You are close to the TV screen. There are a few places to put things.

There is a table with a wireless charging point.

The new Finnair Business Class seat has no recline function, so you have to slide down yourself.

The privacy is excellent even without a door and the sit is a shell with no seat back cushion apart from 2 pillows.

The seat is one of the lightest in Business Class. I was quite comfortable in the position.

I think the seat is similar to the old Singapore Airlines wide Business Class seat, but with a Nordic feel.

The flight time to London was 2 hours 22 minutes. The A350 is light and we can climb straight from the ground. The takeoff is shown in the video.

The Rest of the New Cabin

I walked around the plane after we reached cruising altitude. During the takeoff, the middle galley is completely closed. There is a mirror with light.

Finnair has a new Premium Economy Class on this A350. Premium Economy is the first time Finnair has introduced it. It has a standard 38 seat pitch.

Breakfast is served in Business Class.

Flight attendant told me the Finnair juice/wine glass was designed 40 years ago, first used from Helsinki to New York in 1976.

I tried out the bed after breakfast.

Your feet slide into a box when you are in full recline. If you are a big guy like me, this may make sleeping on the side a bit difficult. The bed is long enough for me. I think it is long enough for three people.

It's hard for me to say if one can sleep comfortably on a long-haul flight, since I only had a short flight to London. Privacy is excellent. You have your own privacy. The best position I found was lounging with the leg rest up.

We arrived in London on the Easterly runway. There was a bright morning at London.

My Verdict

There are pros and cons to the Finnair Business Class. These are all subjective, depending on your preferences.

There are pros and cons.

  • Good privacy, nice Nordic decor gives a calm feeling
  • Comfortable enough with a pillow to support the back in upright position and in lounge 'Z' position
  • Lighter weight Business Class seat

Cons.

  • Limited space in the odd footwell may restrict leg movement.
  • Limited legroom in fully upright position during takeoff/landing, you sit close to the IFE screen.

Finnair will be flying the A330/A350 from May. The upgrade of the cabin will be completed by the end of the year.
