We flew from Washington to DC in the first class of the airline. I wanted to review the lounge at Washington Dulles because it is used by Emirates as its contract lounge. I was curious to check out the lounge after it underwent a renovation.
The Air France-KLM Lounge is located at Washington Dulles. The check-in hall is retro and I love it.
We took the train to Concourse A, where we arrived within a few minutes.
I think that Concourse A and B at Washington Dulles is one of the nicer terminals in the United States.
The lounge was located across from the gate where our flight was leaving.
The Air France-KLM Lounge Washington Dulles is open from 8AM until 9PM, though hours do vary during the year.
During the evening hours, the lounge is used by Air France-KLM passengers, and the service is significantly improved. For the rest of the day, this is used as a contract lounge.
Priority Pass is the most common way to access the lounge. Priority Pass memberships are offered by many premium credit cards. Priority Pass members can access the lounge for up to three hours.
Some airlines use this as their contract lounge. We could simply enter with our boarding passes.
When you consider how many Priority Pass lounges in the United States tend to attract, the Air France-KLM Lounge is a decent size, but not huge. The lounge has a main room with plenty of natural light.
I like the way the seating is distributed, as there are seats in rows facing one another, and then there is a circular area with some cafe-style seating. The lounge was crowded during our visit.
There was an area that others didn't know existed. There is a room behind the reception desk with tables. Air France uses this as a pre-flight dining facility in the evening. It is open during the day, but there was no one sitting there.
The lounge has an elevator that leads to the lower level. During our visit, that was closed. I'm not sure if that opens in the evenings when Air France-KLM flights leave, or if travel just hasn't recovered to the point that it's needed. The main level is larger than the lower level.
The main level has great views of the taxiway and floor-to-ceiling windows.
We sat in the lounge for a while. The area where we sat was filling up. A lady sitting next to us started to cough nonstop. We decided to just wander the terminal and get some steps in.
Catering for contract lounges varies depending on who the passengers are. In the evening before Air France-KLM departures, the selection is improved a lot. Catering was scaled back without an incentive to spend more on Priority Pass passengers.
Fresh fruit, yogurt, two types of french fries, cheese, bread, veggies, finger sandwiches, and some sweets were included in the food selection for our morning visit.
There was water, soft drinks, coffee, and tea to drink.
The bar area served alcoholic drinks. There was a sign that said liquor wasn't being served.
There was only one white wine, one red wine, and one champagne. Taittinger was on offer. I find it odd to serve Taittinger but not basic liquor.
We just drank several bottles of water and nothing else, since we weren't going to ruin our hunger on the flight.
The bathroom were in the back of the lounge. The men's bathroom had two stalls and one urinal. The shower suite was not available when we visited.
The Air France-KLM Lounge was used for its purpose. The lounge had a modern design with lots of natural light. Priority Pass members can eat in the lounge, but the food selection wasn't great and complimentary Taittinger was available.
Air France business class passengers can eat a la carte in the lounge in the evening, but that didn't apply here.
What did you think about visiting the Air France-KLM Lounge IAD?
